Materials

Mild steel

Cost-effective general-purpose bar stock for turned components.

Stainless steel

Corrosion-resistant, food-safe grades available.

Brass

Good machinability and appearance, often used for fittings and decorative parts.

Aluminium

Lightweight, good machinability, suitable for a wide range of turned parts.

See full stock ranges and finish notes on the materials page. Lathe items are always reviewed quotes — prices are confirmed at quote time.

Tolerances

Turned parts can achieve tight tolerances — typically around ± 0.05–0.1 mm — but the achievable figure depends on the feature, material, and the part's length-to-diameter ratio. Because lathe work is quoted from a drawing rather than a 3D model, we confirm tolerances per part during review. Call out any critical dimensions, fits or threads clearly on your drawing so we can confirm what's achievable as part of your firm quote. Parts are supplied as turned: edges can be sharp, and deburring and hand finishing are not included unless we agree them in writing.

Frequently asked questions

Why isn't my price instant?

Lathe turning is quoted from a dimensioned drawing rather than a 3D model, and involves variables — bar stock, tolerances, threading, finish — that need an engineer's eye. We give you an instant estimate range, then confirm a firm price, usually within 1 business day.

Do I need a CAD file or just a drawing?

Just a dimensioned PDF drawing is fine — that's how we quote lathe work. Include key dimensions, tolerances, thread callouts and material in the drawing or the notes field.

What materials can you turn?

At launch we offer mild steel, stainless steel, brass and aluminium bar stock. If you need a different material, contact us before you upload.

What tolerances can you achieve?

Typical achievable tolerances are around ± 0.05–0.1 mm, but this depends on the feature, material and length-to-diameter ratio. We confirm exact tolerances per part as part of the firm quote.

Can you do threading or knurling?

Yes — mention any threading, knurling or other features in your drawing or notes and we'll confirm feasibility and price as part of the review.
